which pre-workout is best for me?

March 4th, 2019

There are a multitude of pre-workout formulas available on the market these days, so it is hard to know which products are going to be beneficial and which products are a waste of money. The key is to align a pre-workout specifically with your training mode and goals, so that you are able to increase your performance. So before you purchase your pre-workout ask yourself the question: what specifically am I training for? Then do your research and find a pre-workout that will assist you with your individual type of training.

A pre-workout will provide either instant energy, nitric oxide production (intra-muscular energy) or help to boost recovery.

Caffeine is food source that has a direct influence on physical performance. Caffeine helps to increase central nervous system activity, giving you a rapid increase in energy (cognitive, muscular and aerobic). One thing to be aware of is that there is a limit (or sensitivity) to how much we can each have and sometimes more is not good. Caffeine also helps to keep you awake or alert, so you may want to avoid taking too much caffeine, too late in the day.

NITRIC OXIDE PRODUCTION (Intra-muscular Energy)
Nitric oxide is produced by nearly every type of cell in the human body and one of the most important molecules for blood vessel health. It’s a vasodilator, meaning it relaxes the inner muscles of your blood vessels, causing the vessels to widen. In this way, nitric oxide increases blood flow and lowers blood pressure. During bouts of physical exercise, nitric oxide production increases rates of muscle protein synthesis, helps to increase recovery rates of lean muscle and decreases metabolic fatigue by buffering metabolites. Pre-workout formulas incorporate several types of nitrates (amino acids such as Beta Alanine, Arginine (AAKG), L-Citrulline and Taurine) to allow for maximal vaso-dilation. The stronger the vaso-dilation, the greater the ‘pump’ effect which is especially beneficial when training for muscle endurance.

Scorpion Rampage 9.15g

During bouts of high intensity interval training (HIIT) your body is rapidly metabolising carbohydrate, fat and proteins to provide fuel for your body. The most important aspects of recovery following a HIIT session are the replenishment of glycogen (a stored form of carbohydrate) and protein for the repair and regeneration of lean mass. New age pre-workout formulas also cater to recovery, with the key recovery ingredients being Branched Chain Amino Acids, Glutamine, Essential Amino Acids (EEAS specifically) plus malto-dextrin and dextrose as carbohydrate sources.
